What a Wacky Wednesday!

Can you believe the traffic earlier today? It was c-r-a-z-y! I rode with my dad to work and he said that it was one of the worst traffic jams he has ever experienced. I wanted to sleep through it but I felt guilty with my dad stuck behind the wheel. Needless to say, I was late for work — three hours late to be exact! (My dad, on the other hand, missed his class. Way to go, Professor.) Fortunately, our boss reprieved all tardiness for the day (I think half of our workforce came in late), but I did have to stay an extra hour afterwards to make up.

Moving on, I’m so broke. I had to borrow some money from my little sister this morning, which is just pathetic. I do have my Paypal balance, a check that’s begging to be deposited, and a bunch of leftover HK dollars and Macau patacas — but I’m not liquid. Payday, please come sooner!

And you know what Uma did earlier? She nipped my upper lip! Oh, this is just the thing my mother and my boyfriend warned me about. We got too gigil with each other, I guess.

Finally, we had our very first wedding-related pickle today! Tenen! Our prospective wedding coordinator, Chi of Once a Bride, confirmed that she will no longer be available on our wedding date for personal reasons I understand. *sob* I really, really like her! We haven’t booked their services yet, we were supposed to book this month after finalizing our reception venue. I guess it was a good thing that we haven’t paid yet, because she still would have backed out anyway. *sob again* I already contacted another wedding coordinator, and I have a good feeling about her so far. Chi also recommended her. We’ll be meeting this month, and I’m crossing my fingers that this will turn out well.

What a hump day, huh? I’m actually hoping that tomorrow and Friday will be uneventful. I need a bit of a break because I’m foreseeing a wacky weekend ahead.

Hiding Uma

Our kitten has a new pasttime: playing hide-and-seek with us. She hides, and we spend a good amount of time looking for her. Some of her favorite hiding places are the bathrooms, under beds, under the slipcovers, Mako’s cabinet, and behind the piano. Uma thinks it’s fun, and it is most of the time, but sometimes it gets annoying.

Oh, Uma. This kitten is such a silly, playful, adorable little thing. She’s everyone’s favorite toy, and our house has been a little bit more alive since she arrived.

Home sweet home

I’m home after five days of touring Hong Kong and Macau with my two favorite people in the whole world, my boyfriend and my baby sister. This trip was my gift to May for passing the nursing board exams. It was her first trip abroad and I was happy to see her happy.

My goal for this trip was to make her love travelling, to want to see as much as she can of this wonderful world we live in, and I think I succeeded. On the plane ride home, she was already planning our next trip, the three of us.

Anyway, I’m so glad to be home. I missed the kitten so bad.

Attagirl, Uma! You’ll have to learn how to catch mice someday, Minnie Mouse’s ears seem like something good to practice on!

Never Say Never

Pre-Uma, I said I’d never like cats. Never. I said the only time I will like cats is if they’re inside siopao as filling. But if you’ve been reading my blog for the last 3 months, you’ll know just how in love I am with our kitten.

So I’m taking it back. I love cats!

I’m also taking back these things I once said I’d never do, because never doesn’t really mean never, does it?

  • get a tattoo
  • eat a balut (I actually need to do this in partial fulfillment of the requirements for my 31 Before 31 list)
  • eat foie gras
  • go on a packaged travel tour
  • color my hair
  • or have any kind of chemical hair treatment whatsoever
  • wear Crocs or ugg boots
  • eat okra
  • like Michael Buble
  • text-talk
  • wear white wedding shoes (if they’re Kate Spade, why not?)
  • have my bellybutton pierced
  • watch Twilight
  • be a stay-at-home mom

    Fatty Kitty

I’m very pleased with how much Uma has grown in the last few weeks, she went through a growth spurt when she finally started eating solid food.

I went through her pictures, and I can’t believe how scrawny she looked. This was exactly one month ago:

Man, that picture just breaks my heart. I didn’t realize that she was fugly not too cute, back then she was the cutest kitten in the world for me, that little package of skin and bones and sparse fur.

She looked scary, poor thing! She was so tiny we can put her in our pockets.

Uma has filled out beautifully, thanks to my parents who spoil her rotten. They feed her food (usually fish) straight from their plates, and that’s besides her regular servings of Whiskas Junior.

    Look at her now:

She’s gorgeous now that she’s rounder. Abet wants to get her some kitty multivitamins from Cartimar but I think that’s not necessary. We don’t even give her Tiki-Tiki anymore.

    Here’s her most recent picture:

Belly flab never looked this good.

Our little girl is eight weeks old now! Gah, I sound like a first-time mother talking about her newborn. I can’t help it, Uma is my baby, and since I don’t plan on getting pregnant anytime soon, please bear with my Uma-lovin’.

Uma is still so heartbreakingly tiny. She’s a challenge to feed- -bottle-feeding starts with a bit of wrestling because she puts on a flailing-and-scratching show before she actually sucks on her milk. We have no problems with her Whiskas Junior tuna, though, but that alone will leave her constipated. And sometimes, she can’t hold down her food, she throws up every so often. Just a little while ago she was throwing up and having diarrhea at the same time, I was practically elbow-deep in kitty vomit and poop. And let me tell ya, kitty pupu is just so nasty! NASTY!

But oh can she jump! And run! And climb! Our skinny little Uma is quite a spry one. I know I’ll rue the day, but one day she’ll be a-jumping on our shelves and toppling over the frames and plaques on display. I’ll worry about that then. Right now, my biggest concern is to get her to grow big and healthy.

    Okay, I admit it.

I am a cat lover. I’m now a cat lover, thanks to our darling 5-week old kitten, Uma.

Abet teases me about this a lot, that I now love cats. Pre-Uma, the only cat I liked was Garfield- -I can’t stand the rest of ‘em felines- -but this little furball gets me thinking that cats are absolutely adorable creatures.

Did you see that video circulating last week about the woman caught by security cameras dumping a cat in the trash bin? Oh, I was so furious when I saw it on the news! If that happened two months ago, I don’t think I would have been bothered much, but now I was like, “I’ma kill you, b*****!” You wouldn’t think that I hated cats not too long ago.

Anyway, Uma is my new best friend. She’s the first thing I look for when I get up, and the first thing I look for as soon as I come home from work. She’s sleeping by my foot right now as I type. I can’t get enough of this kitten. I’m in love.

I don’t plan on having any kids until I’m past 30, Uma will be my baby girl for now.

    Uma Girl

Our baby girl is three weeks old now. She’s so guwapa especially now that her eyes are already open.

I worry about her sometimes, she hasn’t grown much since the day Momon rescued her just after she was born. I like to think that she’s well fed with us, there’s always someone to feed her ’round the clock. Poor kitten probably didn’t get enough nutrition before we got her, I’m willing to bet that the mommy cat was never given kitty prenatal vitamins when she was pregnant.

I’m glad Uma is thriving, though. I’m already smitten with this kitten.

And now for some animal news…

    We have a new kitten!

Actually, my brother Momon does. I woke up last Friday morning to something crying just right outside my window, and being in the just-awoken state that I am, I initially thought it was our rabbit, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. When I realized that rabbits don’t cry, I went outside to check, and I saw the cutest sight: Momon feeding the tiniest kitten I have ever seen using a baby bottle.

Momon saw the kitty near the garbage can outside our house as he was taking out the trash. It was a rainy morning, and the kitten still had its eyes closed and its umbilical cord attached. Being the softie that he is, my brother rescued it. He Googled about how to take care of a newborn cat, and upon reading that he needs to feed it a cocktail of evap, plain yogurt, pancake syrup, and an egg yolk, off he went to the nearest SM Hypermarket to buy all those, plus the feeding bottle.

We couldn’t think of a name for the kitty off the bat, because as the T.S. Elliot poem performed in the musical C.A.T.S. goes, “The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter, It isn’t just one of your holiday games.” My mom decided to call it Uma, though. So Uma it is. It fits right in my mom’s hand.

The kitten looks much better than it did two days ago. (I keep saying it because we still don’t know the gender). My brother actually went to Cartimar to buy a can of baby formula for animals. If there was an hgh spray for kittens (kgh spray, then?), I’m sure he would have gotten one too! He’s doing a good job of doing mommy cat duties. Just like when Cello was still a baby, the kitty stays in his room.

Meanwhile, someone wasn’t all too happy with the new addition to our little menagerie:

That’s Cello barking furiously at Uma. Total waste of energy, really, because aside from being blind, that kitten is still deaf.

I actually don’t like cats very much. Oh, who are we kidding, I HATE cats! But I’m getting fond of this little one, it’s just too adorable to resist. I hope Uma survives, and I hope it won’t leave once it grows up.

    –=-=–

    Our puppy got attacked yesterday.

Momon and Cello went out to buy some softdrinks, and our neighbor’s two dachshunds attacked Cello without any provocation. Now the poor thing has bite wounds on his backside. Ooooh, those mean dachs! I don’t know how they could hurt this little thing:

Mako the brother and Cello the doggie

Now you all know I’m a big dog-lover, but when I see those dachshunds, I’ll feed them some M&M’s mixed with Ajinomoto! (I keed! I keed!)

    –=-=–

Apu is one happy rabbit these days. We don’t keep him in his cage now, he’s free to roam around the backyard. We actually wonder why we haven’t thought of that before.

I just love these animals, they keep me sane and happy like nothing else can.
