I Dieeeeee!!!

This picture is just too cute!

I have wanted a pug for the longest time. It’s my favorite dog breed. And the more banlag (wall-eyed) they are, the more adorable they are to me.

Four of my former officemates in Shell had pugs–one had the mother while the other three bought her offspring from different litters–and I died of envy every time they would talk about or show me pictures of their pets. As much as I’d want to have a pug right now, Abet and I already have our hands full with our labrador and our beagle.

Should we decide to get another dog, I’ll make sure we’ll get a pug this time. I read that they’re good with kids. I can totally imagine my future children riding our dogs like horses. Maybe I’ll even get our kids some kiddie equestrian riding apparel. How cute would that be?

Obama on Marriage

“Sometimes, when we’re lying together, I look at her and I feel dizzy with the realization that here is another distinct person from me, who has memories, origins, thoughts, feelings that are different from my own. That tension between familiarity and mystery meshes something strong between us. Even if one builds a life together based on trust, attentiveness and mutual support, I think that it’s important that a partner continues to surprise.” –Barack Obama

A Sound of Music Birthday Party

Okay, so my ultimate favorite movie of all time is The Sound of Music. When I found out that Abet knows pretty much every song in the movie on our second date, I knew I wanted to marry him, haha!

Anyway, you can just imagine how much I swooned when I came across this The Sound of Music-inspired kiddie birthday party.

The birthday celebrant as Maria (love the ukelele):

The mother of the birthday girl sewed costumes for the guests, they look like the Von Trapp siblings in their playclothes:

And the giveaways? Brown paper packages tied up with strings!

Ultra-Luxurious Homes

My jaw just dropped when I saw today’s feature on Oddee.com on 10 of the world’s most insanely luxurious houses! Check it out! There’s a $2-billion 27-storey house-tower, another has 24-carat gold leafing on the floor. One house requires 50 full-time gardeners. Mariah Carey’s fabulous crib is featured, as well as the mansion seen in The Godfather. They all have cinemas, tennis courts/bowling alleys/baseball fields/skating rinks, multiply swimming pools, and grand staircases.  Aaron’s Spelling’s house is also on the list–it has a room used exclusively for wrapping presents!

Mariah Carey's house

Mariah Carey's super-glam digs

These houses are oh so ostentatious and grandiose, I can’t even imagine what it would be like to live in such a place!

Actually, I can’t even bring myself to dream about living in a house like this. I just want our own home. No, I want us to build our own home from the ground up and not buy something that’s already made. I know I probably won’t be able to build a house with it’s own gym and a two-story wine cellar with jacuzzis in every bathroom, but that’s fine. My dreams are much, much simpler than that.

I want a library, a walk-in closet, a grotto with a pond. I want a pretty, spacious kitchen where I can cook hearty meals and bake delectable goodies. I want to have gorgeous sinks and Murray Feiss lighting.  I’ll handpick all the switch panels, doorknobs, and cabinet handles that goes into my home. And I want the best toilet bowl we can afford for the master bathroom.

You see, I don’t really desire an über-opulent house, I’m just fascinated by them, that’s all.

But if I ever win the lotto, my house will definitely have a gift-wrapping room!

Norman Rockwell on Google

Norman Rockwell Google

I love this commemorative doodle for Norman Rockwell’s birthday on Google today.

I loved a Norman Rockwell painting before I knew what it is, this particular one that hung in the dentist’s office when I was a kid:

Norman Rockwell

I’d find out later that it’s entitled Before the Shot.
When I got older, I found out that Norman Rockwell is my father’s favorite painter. He had this as his desktop wallpaper at one point, The Runaway:

Norman Rockwell

I’ll have a print of this painting in my house when I grow up.

My dad also introduced me to these two humorous works, the Triple Self-Portrait…

Norman Rockwell

…and The Gossip. Check out the expressions, especially that of the first/last lady:

Norman Rockwell

I’m actually browsing more of Norman Rockwell’s works on art.com right now and they’re all brilliant. Go check!

Happy birthday, Norman Rockwell!

Binondo Church, Chinatown, Manila, 1902

What a wonderful gem of a photograph I found over at Flickr!

Below is a photo of the Pasig River from the same set: Each photo was scanned from the original glass plate negative, the quality of the snaps are amazing. Even more precious are the grandfather’s diary entries during his stay in the Philippines on December 02-12, 1902. It’s always nice to read about Old Manila, even more so from a visiting traveler’s perspective. The entries are on the Binondo Church photo’s comments page here, they’re really worth reading.

SmokeFree QuitMeter

I found this nifty little banner over at Topaz Horizon:

Abet quit smoking on my birthday last year–one of the best birthday presents I have ever received. Those are his statistics above, based on 15 sticks a day at P40.00 per pack.

Over P7,000 saved in seven months. Very nice. Abet had been smoking since he was 14 years old–around two-thirds of his life–can you imagine how much that had cost?

Abet and I met because I asked him for a light, I couldn’t find my teensy black lighter inside my giant, multi-pocketed Nine West bag, so I can’t really say that I regret all those years that we had been smokers, but I’m mighty proud that we kicked the ugly habit in the butt, pun intended.

I quit months before Abet did, that means that I have saved more… I deserve a little reward, no? Hmmmm…

Souvenirs

I love these clever photographs by Michael Hughes:

I like to collect items from my trips, little somethings that remind me of my visit. A big chunk of my collection is composed of the usual tourist trinkets–magnets, keychains, maps, and postcards (some of which I sent to myself)–but I’ve taken home bus tickets, admission tickets, boarding passes, pressed leaves and flowers, tins, table napkins, paper bags, even candy/chocolate wrappers. I’ll keep anything that will remind me of my travel experiences. Even the pencils and tape measures from Ikea have earned a place in my “travel” box. Abet gave me a beautiful velvet-lined box last year where I store souvenirs from our trips together, I hope to fill it up with more items.

What do you take home as souvenirs?
