Someone almost upstaged me at my wedding…

…and believe it or not, she was wearing a P250 ukay-ukay dress. A P250 UKAY-UKAY DRESS!

Also, believe it or not, she turns 61 today. Sixty-one, my dear friends. These are all raw images (resized for my blog), no Photoshop.

Happy birthday to my beautiful mother, who is as beautiful within as she is on the outside.

You are the most inspiring woman I know, Ma. While I pray that I look half as good as you do when I’m 61, what I’m really praying for is that I be half as good as you are as a wife and as a mother. I love you!

Happy Birthday, Uma!

Our dear, darling mimingcat Uma is one year old today.

*wipes tear*

When my brother rescued her one rainy morning from the trash, her eyes were still closed and her umbilical cord was still attached. We didn’t know if she’d survive, she went a couple of days without a name so we wouldn’t get too attached. She was so thin and frail back then:

She has grown into this crazy, chubby beauty:

one of her favorite hobbies is to watch over Maisky the hamster

And what’s a first birthday party without party hats? My sister May made hats for all the pets.

I was supposed to bake her a cake but I was too tired today, we put her birthday candles on monggo bread instead:

For dinner, we had my parents’ wicked paella, which they slaved all day to make, but that’s because today is also their 33rd wedding anniversary. Uma has good timing, no? There’s bound to be good food every year on her birthday.

I can’t say enough how smitten we all are with this cat. She has brought so much joy into our home. We all went to her for comfort when we went through a difficult period last year, even my dad especially my dad. We enjoyed having a cat so much that we adopted a second cat, and now it’s double the fun.

Before we had Uma, I absolutely hated cats. Couldn’t stand them. Now, I’m a cat-lover for life.

Our dog is 3!

This is our Django, the adorable yellow labrador retriever Abet and I share, and he’s three years old today! That picture above was taken more than a year ago, he’s humongous now.

Abet had always dreamed of owning a yellow lab, I’ve known that from the start, and we had planned on getting one once we’re married. Just after our first anniversary, I said, “why don’t we get one now?” We met Django exactly two years after Abet and I met. And his mother’s name is Andrea!

We named him Django, just like the dog of one of Abet’s favorite classical guitarists, Julian Bream. Julian Bream, on the other hand, named his dog after one of my favorite jazz guitarists, Django Reinhardt.

Django is Abet’s dog, really. We planned on getting the dog together, but when we got the puppy, Abet won’t let me pay for half, he said it’s his Christmas gift to both of us. And Abet won’t let me contribute to the dog’s food, because I can’t afford it, hehe! Abet insists on feeding Djangsky nothing but premium dog food (Canidae). And I refuse to clean up after the dog, nu-uh. Have you seen how large a lab’s pupu can get? Abet does all the work, I get all the fun.

Django is exactly like me–cute, smart, loves making pa-cute and papansin to Abet, loves to have is its belly rubbed, loves to sniff Abet, eats a lot, sleeps a lot, and is really ututin. No wonder Abet loves him so much!

I love you, too, Djanggir! You be a good boy, you’re a kuya to Cello and Uma now. Happy birthday!

My carrot cake

My brother Mako turned 24 yesterday, so I made him my famous carrot cake:

Okay, I admit that my cake-decorating skills need major improvement, but I swear, my carrot cake is the best! Just ask my mom (she’ll say that it’s the best in the whole wide world), or if you think she’s biased, ask my officemates. Or even my brother Momon’s officemates.

Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is my absolute favorite, so I just had to learn how to bake it myself. I’ve made it so many times already since we had an oven three years ago, I can bake a couple in record time (I always bake it in twos). I baked two last week for my parents’ anniversary (as requested by my mother), I made two yesterday, and I’ll make another two next week for a friend’s birthday celebration. I’ll probably need the best fat burning supplement since I can’t resist my own creations, but my carrot cake is definitely worth it.

I really should learn how to decorate my cakes properly (and how to make them round and pretty), so that they’ll look good as they taste. Good thing my family doesn’t really care how the cakes look as long as they taste good. And they are always, always made with love, that’s my secret ingredient.

Which reminds me of the cake Abet decorated for my 25th birthday. It looks hideous not pretty, but it was a labor of love. Best cake ever.

Three and a half years now

… and his smile still takes my breath away, his eyes still make me weak in the knees, his kisses still send shivers down my spine…

Ah, the world will pardon my mush cause I have got a crush, my baby, on you!

Yes, world, please do pardon my mush–it’s my favorite boyfriend’s birthday today! I think there’s a law somewhere that says one is allowed to write über-cheesy blog posts on his or her significant other’s birthday (also applies to anniversaries).

Happy birthday, love!

Happy birthday to me!

I’m having a really good day today, I love it!

I’m on vacation leave (I never work on my birthday), but I celebrated earlier with my officemates and ate a ton of food. I re-watched Glee, with my mom this time. I ate a ton of food again at home. A package of chocolates arrived for my sister from one of her PMA suitors, which I’ll get to eat anyway. My sister and I will have dinner with Abet later at Mom & Tina’s (her pick) before we get our third and last cervical cancer shot at my office. Oh, and our cash Christmas gift from Shell (in lieu of gift baskets) was credited today. Wheee!

I’m off to collect my birthday kiss from my favorite boyfriend! Good day, indeed!

Toodles!

Presents!

It’s been so long since I gave my parents gift-wrapped presents. I’m sure parents still love the feeling of tearing open gift wrapper to see what’s inside. I can’t wait for them to see what I got them, teehee!

It’s my dad’s birthday today, so he gets a present. I got him this book:

Absolutely-American-E4R279L

I still have some gift wrapper left over, and my friend Jarwin just got back from Vegas and brought me some M&M’s Premiums Dark Chocolate. I wrapped a box up with a note for my mom:

Fun! They each have something to open from me! My mom will give me some of the chocolates, anyway, hehe. The M&M’s are so good. And shimmery.

The gifts are on the piano waiting to greet them as soon as they get up. I hope the ‘rents like them!
